Airplanes: Where's the safest seat?

With all the worry about air travel these days, some people now look to book seats that offer the safest possible locations on a plane in case of a crash. Many travelers have in recent years debated whether that best spot is in the front or the rear of a plane. Well, the answer, according to a recent study, is neither. According to Professor Ed Galea of the University of Greenwich in England, who studied more than 100 plane crashes in which there were survivors, the safest place is generally near an exit. Galea came up with the "Rule of Five," which states that the safest seats on a plane are those located within five rows of any exit. That distance to an exit is often the difference between life and death in a plane crash. The very safest seats are those actually located in an exit row or one row away. To learn more, see information about airplane accidents or look for an airplane accident attorney.
