Some of Kline & Specter’s biggest cases have been litigated in Pittsburgh in Allegheny County Common Pleas Court.

In 2009, the firm went up against a major corporation and won an $8.75 million jury verdict against the Ford Motor Co. and a local auto dealership in Allegheny County for the family of a 43-year-old Pittsburgh tow truck operator who was killed when the defective parking brake on his truck gave way and he was crushed by his own vehicle. In other Allegheny County cases, Kline & Specter won the largest medical malpractice verdict in Allegheny County history with a $7.8 million award for a 4-year-old boy who suffered cerebral palsy as a result of a birth injury. (News coverage)

And in 2007, the firm won a jury verdict for $1.2 million in damages in the premises liability case of a woman killed when a roof collapsed at a ride at the Kennywood amusement park. Later, in 2010, as the jury phase for liability and punitive damages was to proceed, the case settled for nearly $2 million. (Read about the case)

In its latest case in Allegheny County, Kline & Specter filed suit in a highly publicized tragedy in which an Irwin woman was killed after she was struck by falling electric lines outside her home. Carrie Goretzka burned as her horrified young children and mother-in-law watched. Kline & Specter not only filed suit over the 2009 incident but also demanded corrective action by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission in ensuring that Allegheny Energy and other utilities properly train workers in the installation and maintenance of power lines.
