  • woman wins a $5 million auto accident settlement after she was seriously injured in a crash with a delivery truck. The woman suffered a brain injury and broken bones after the truck crossed the road and collided head-on with the cab she was driving in. The woman underwent four surgeries, spent more than six weeks in a hospital and a nursing home and needs a lifetime of care. (Full story)
  • A woman who sustained serious auto accident injuries is awarded $2.5 million. The woman was injured when a truck crossed left of center, sideswiped a car, and struck her van. She sustained a number of serious injuries, including a broken thigh bone, broken hip and a skull fracture. In addition, she was unable to run her business due to the scope of her injuries and was forced to sell it. (Full Story)
  • Government research shows that chatting on cell phones, whether drivers held them in their hand or not, slows reaction time and causes inattention that leads to auto accidents. Consumer groups made National Highway Traffic Safety Administration documents public, and charged that the government has not been upfront about distractions by cell phones. (Full story)
  • A city and county in Oregon must pay a total of $550,000 to two men and the family of a third who died when a police officer ran a stop sign and crashed into them. The officer was driving more than 60 mph to help another officer, but failed to turn on his siren and flashing lights.
