Civil trial begins in school bus accident

PHILADELPHIA - A civil trial involving the survivor of a school bus accident began Wednesday.

Ashley Zauflik lost her leg after a bus slammed into a crowd of high school students at Pennsbury High School in Bucks Co. in 2007.

She is suing the school district, the driver and the bus' brake maker.

School district lawyer David Cohen told The Associated Press the district accepts liability for Zauflik's injuries.

Zauflik's lawyer, Thomas Kline, said the trial will now determine damages.

Kline claims the bus driver hit the gas instead of the brake and caused the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board and Falls Township police reached the same conclusion.

Cohen said the district has no evidence to dispute the NTSB findings, but the bus driver said a mechanical problem caused the crash.
