The number of serious accidents involving trucks is on the rise, with more than 10 people dying each day on American roadways. The increase was 18 percent over the most recent three-year period as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Almost 4,000 people are killed each year, with some 300 fatalities in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware alone. There are also more than 100,000 injuries resulting from truck accidents annually.
Winter months bring ice and snow to area roads and highways. Private contractors, PennDOT, and municipal snowplows, salt and sanding trucks will be operating to plow or clear roads.
