SETTING THE STANDARD
Tom Kline in 2009 was chosen again as Pennsylvania’s Top Point Getter in Super Lawyers, a recognition he has received for six straight years. Kline preserved key trial testimony used in Vioxx trials throughout the country. The litigation ended in a $4.85 billion settlement that benefited hundreds of Kline & Specter clients and thousands of others. Kline is the 2008-09 president of the Inner Circle of Advocates, an organization The Washington Post described as “a select group of the nation’s most celebrated trial lawyers.”
Shanin Specter was once again named to the Top 10 in Pennsylvania Super Lawyers. Specter won an eight-figure medical malpractice jury verdict last year as well as final appeals of three other eight-figure verdicts. In 2007, Specter received the Pennsylvania Association for Justice’s highest honor, the Milton D. Rosenberg Award, for his service and leadership in the legal profession. In 2008, he was selected as the recipient of the Michael A. Musmanno Award, the highest award of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association.
Andrew J. Stern, Lee B. Balefsky, Jonathan M. Cohen and Andrew S. Youman won Super Lawyers honors for another year. For Stern, winner of Pennsylvania’s only $100 million medical malpractice verdict, the selection was his fifth in a row. For Balefsky, head of the firm’s mass tort department, it was his sixth straight time named to Pennsylvania Super Lawyers.
The firm added Geary Yeisley to its lawyer/physician group, which also includes Mark A. Hoffman, Lisa Dagostino, Carol R. Dembe and Gary M. Zakeosian. In one case, Hoffman and Yeisley, both surgeons, teamed to win a major jury verdict in Lackawanna County.
Five Kline & Specter attorneys were named in Pennsylvania Rising Stars 2008. They are Kila B. Baldwin, Charles L. Becker, who heads the firm’s appellate practice, Dominic Guerrini and David K. Inscho.
