Here, Kline reveals the forces that motivate him to continue fighting for justice for victims with serious personal injury or medical malpractice claims.
Question: Why did you decide to pursue personal injury law?
Kline: I grew up near coal mines and factories in the northeastern part of Pennsylvania, and recognized at an early age that there were many dangers in the workplace. A next-door neighbor was afflicted with disease from beryllium. My mom, dad, a factory manager, and wife died of cancer. This all forms part of the perspective underlying my desire to help people and families who are suffering and to fight injustice.
Question: What has been the most fulfilling case of your legal so far?
Kline: While there are many, Hall v. SEPTA will stand out as the case where justice for one little boy whose foot was torn off in a subway escalator was transformed into the reconstruction of an entire Philadelphia transit escalator system — rebuilt and made safer. Our firm has proudly and repeatedly dedicated itself to such accomplishments.
Question: What issues do you think will shape the future of personal injury or medical malpractice law?
Kline: We must stand up in unison against the endless propaganda and attempts to destroy the civil justice system. It will be an ongoing challenge to assure access to the courts and not allow unjust limitations on the rights of victims of unsafe conditions, dangerous drugs and products, and medical negligence.
Question: How do you like to spend your time away from work?
Kline: I love to spend time with my grandchildren. I enjoy a good snooze on the beach, travel to new places, and a new project: the Kline School of Law at Drexel University. I can be found regularly at Sixers and Phillies games, and often on a squash court, despite my never-improving game.
