Cardiologist pleads guilty to massive insurance fraud

Serving Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, New York & Nationwide

A well-known doctor has pleaded guilty to one of the largest medical fraud cases involving a sole practitioner. The physician, who owned and operated several cardiology centers in New York and New Jersey, provided the same diagnostic medical testing to thousands of patients whether they needed it or not, citing angina as a justification for the testing. He then billed and collected payouts from Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance companies. As part of a plea bargain he admitted that from 2004 through 2012 he fraudulently billed insurance companies and government agencies a total of  $19 million. According to a news report, he also pleaded guilty to one count of Social Security fraud for providing his wife with a no-show job at which she collected paychecks and government benefits.
