If you text and drive, heres how to stop

Serving Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, New York & Nationwide

In light of a recent police investigation into a deadly school bus accident that revealed the driver had been texting at the time of the crash, the injury and accident lawyers at Kline & Specter, PC, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania want to remind drivers of the dangers of texting while driving.

The school bus accident in question happened in December 2014 in Knoxville, Tenn. Two young girls and a teacher’s aide died in the crash, which happened after the driver reportedly made a left-hand turn and crossed a concrete median before colliding with another school bus that was traveling in the opposite direction. The allegedly texting school bus driver also died.

This is just one dramatic example of why it can be perilous to text while driving. Consider that:

  • Nine Americans die each day in accidents involving distracted driving, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
  • About one in four car accidents now involve a cell phone, according to the National Safety Council.
  • Using a cell phone while driving multiplies by four the chance of being involved in a motor vehicle accident.

Most American drivers say they know that texting while driving is dangerous yet half also admit to having done it recently.

Advice for drivers: Eliminate the lure to use your cell phone when you’re behind the wheel by storing it out-of-sight during the drive.
