Truck accidents, injuries on the rise

The number of serious accidents involving trucks is on the rise, with more than 10 people dying each day on American roadways. The increase was 18 percent over the most recent three-year period as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Almost 4,000 people are killed each year, with some 300 fatalities in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware alone. There are also more than 100,000 injuries resulting from truck accidents annually. A recent report by NBC News cited several reasons for the increase, including the improving economy – more business means more goods being shipped on American highways and more pressure to get products delivered on time. In some cases, drivers are pushed to drive more hours, resulting in tired employees behind the wheel. Other companies may not be screening as carefully for problem drivers.
