One verdict still stands as a record in Delaware County (and the largest ever at the time in all 66 Pennsylvania counties outside Philadelphia) – a $38.2 award against the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for a woman who was rendered a quadriplegic following an auto accident at a dangerous intersection. Natalie Robley was 28 and about to be married when the tragedy occurred. (See news coverage of The Robley Case)

In another case, a Delaware County jury delivered a verdict of $8.25 million in a medical malpractice case in which a man sued his own brother, a doctor who failed to diagnose his colon cancer. The missed diagnosis led to the man’s death at age 35.

A third major case involved the widow of a doctor suing his former colleagues at Crozer-Chester Medical Center. A jury determined that Dr. Marc Ebel died as a result of negligence on the part of two Delaware County physicians who failed to act while the patient internally bled to death. After a 12-day trial, the jury awarded $2.9 million. (Read the article in the Delaware County Daily Times)
