Mark Polin

Mark S. Polin, M.D., J.D., joined Kline & Specter in 2010 as one of the firm’s growing group of doctor/lawyers.
Dr. Polin is an obstetrician/gynecologist and was in private practice in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre region for nearly 20 years. He has delivered more than 2,000 babies and specialized in infertility and the performance of advanced laparoscopic and vaginal procedures.
Precluded from performing surgery by an injury to his hand, Dr. Polin retired from medicine in 2007 and turned his attention to the study of law, attending the Pennsylvania State University Dickinson School of Law and graduating near the top of his class. He is licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
In one of his first major cases at Kline & Specter, Dr. Polin teamed with Shanin Specter in a birth injury case that resulted in a $21.6 million verdict for a brain-injured boy in 2011. The award, most of which will pay for future medical expenses for a boy who suffered severe brain damage, was the largest-ever personal injury verdict in Erie County. (See The Graham Case)
Dr. Polin previously worked as an intern for the Foley Law Firm in Scranton and at Kline & Specter, where he conducted research and drafted complaints involving medical malpractice cases.
He graduated cum laude from Dickinson Law, placing him in the Woolsack Honor Society. He was also the recipient of several academic awards, including Cali awards as the top student in Legal Research and Writing and Federal Income Taxation and the “Student Health Law Award” from the American Bar Association and Bureau of National Affairs.
Dr. Polin earned his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where he also graduated near the top of his class and earned membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Medical Society. He did his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Eastern Virginia Graduate School of medicine with Drs. Howard and Georgianna Jones, leading pioneers in gynecologic surgery and In Vitro Fertilization.
Dr. Polin earned his undergraduate degree from the Pennsylvania State University with “high distinction” and was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, the Honorary Business Society. He also attended the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia as a non-degree graduate student before entering medical school.
Among his personal interests, Dr. Polin umpires high school and legion baseball and has run numerous marathons, including ten Marine Corps Marathons in Washington, D.C. and one Boston Marathon.
