Pennsylvania Super Lawyers 2013

Fourteen Kline & Specter lawyers were named as 2013 Pennsylvania Super Lawyers, with Tom Kline selected as the state’s No. 1 attorney a nationally unprecedented 10th straight year and Shanin Specter selected for the 10th year and eighth consecutive among the state's Top 10.

The others selected were Andrew J. Stern, Lee B. Balefsky (10 straight years), , Michelle L. Tiger, Andrew S. Youman, Charles L. Becker, head of the firm’s Appellate Division, David J. CaputoMichael A. Trunk, Gilbert F. Shelsby Jr., Dominic C. Guerrini, Regan S. Safier, and Drs. Garabet M. Zakeosian and Mark A. Hoffman, who are two of Kline & Specter’s seven attorneys who are also doctors.

For Kline, becoming Pennsylvania Super Lawyers’ Top Point Getter for the 10th straight year was a first for any lawyer in any state. He has been recognized over the years for a myriad of legal victories. The immediate past president of the Inner Circle of Advocates, Kline in December 2011, Kline won a highly publicized $14 million verdict for a young woman, Ashley Zauflik, who lost her leg after she was run over by an out-of-control school bus in Bucks County, Pa.

Specter in December 2012 won a $109 million verdict for the family of a Pittsburgh-area woman who was killed by a fallen power line, later settling the case with West Penn Power for $105 millio. The verdict was one of the largest in the nation and the largest verdict in a personal injury case in Pennsylvania history. He previously won verdicts of $21.6 million and $17.5 million in birth injury and medical malpractice cases, respectively. Specter was featured on the 2011 cover of Super Lawyers magazine, which called him "one of the most celebrated and respected catastrophic injury litigators in the country.”

For Stern, winner of Pennsylvania’s only $100 million medical malpractice verdict, the selection to Super Lawyers was his ninth in a row. For Balefsky, head of the firm’s Mass Tort Department, it was his 10th straight time named to Pennsylvania Super Lawyers.

Super Lawyers is a rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who "have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement." The multi-phase selection process includes independent research, peer nominations and peer evaluations in voting across the state, followed by a Blue Ribbon Panel review.

Kline & Specter attorneys also have been named in Pennsylvania Rising Stars, designating them as among the top 2.5 percent of attorneys in the state who are 40 or younger. They are Kila B. Baldwin, David K. Inscho, Jason L. Pearlman, David C. Williams and Mark S. Polin, who is also a doctor.
